Sloane & Arlo - San Diego, Ca

I had the opportunity to photograph these two lovely ladies recently and boy did we have way for fun than I thought we would. I set up my backdrop in the living room of their house and these girls ended up having so much fun and laughed throughout the entire session. Typically it can be a long process to draw genuine smiles out of kids as they often give the stale “cheese” smile that they have been conditioned to give their whole lives. However, with these two the smiles poured out of them for 45 minutes straight!

I’m really a big believer in studio portraits, especially for portraits of kids - and I think these photos show why. With the portraits you really focus on the personality of the girls and their relationship that is harder to highlight when there is the visual distraction of a location or background. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good portrait outdoors in a beautiful field or forest, but most of the time I find myself connecting more with the emotion and warmth of studio portraits.
